Castle Rock (Hulu) - Stephen King anthology series - EP: Abrams - premieres 7/25/18

Quote:
Hulu announced that Castle Rock, the psychological-horror anthology series from J.J. Abrams and Stephen King, will premiere on July 25th with the first three episodes only on Hulu.

A psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse, Castle Rock combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. The fictional Maine town of Castle Rock has figured prominently in King’s literary career: Cujo, The Dark Half, IT and Needful Things, as well as novella The Body and numerous short stories such as Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption are either set there or contain references to Castle Rock. Castle Rock is an original suspense/thriller — a first-of-its-kind reimagining that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories.

The series stars André Holland, Melanie Lynskey, Sissy Spacek, Bill Skarsgård, Jane Levy and Scott Glenn.

CREW INFORMATION:
· Ben Stephenson as EP
· Dustin Thomason as CRTR/EP
· J.J. Abrams as EP
· Liz Glotzer as EP
· Michael Uppendahl as DIR (Pilot)
· Sam Shaw as CRTR/EP
· Stephen King as BOOK
Season 1 will be 10 episodes.

So all 10 will be on Hulu? Where else will it be showing?

All 10 are on Hulu.

The 1st 3 are being posted on premiere day. Wording it weird, but that's what it means.

Some of the Quarry scenes were filmed near me in Westford / Tyngsboro MA. One of these days I will subscribe to Hulu if only to see the 11/63, Handmaid's tale and possibly this..

Hulu is worthwhile these days, IMHO.

Mildly interested.

Not really getting a sense of what the series is going to be about.

Nowhere, this is a Hulu exclusive. I take the wording 'with the first 3 only on Hulu' to mean that the 1st three episodes will show up on Day 1, with the rest to follow weekly.

This probably will too after a few days/weeks. But when they mean "Exclusive" they mean on TV or Streaming Service like Netflix, Hulu, Crackle, etc;

I find the price a bit high ($2.99 - $3.49 an episode) to purchase any of their shows, but then I'd just wait for it to all air and use a free trial if I wasn't already a member.

I don't watch anything on Hulu if given the choice because their audio is abysmal. For Handmaid's Tale they only apparently stream 64 kbps 2ch (at the bear minimum I'd expect 128 kbps 2ch but would prefer 192 kbps for 2ch). While on Amazon I get 640 kbps 6ch. It's unfortunate though that Amazon only gets episodes about a month late though, but I have enough other shows to watch that the wait is more tolerable than listening to Hulu's audio quality.

Ah that's right, their originals are only 5.1 on Xbox One and PS4 ... still.

Huh? I'm confused.

Amazon only carries the 1st season of The Handmaid's Tale and it's PPV a la carte.

http://www.amazon.com/Offred/dp/B07...+tale+season+2

The only reason why they have it is because the Hulu exclusivity window for that season has already passed.

Castle Rock is going to be a Hulu exclusive for at least 8-12 months.

In the US, yes, but it's on UK Amazon, released weekly 5 weeks behind Hulu. Currently S02E08 was the latest ep released on UK Amazon.

Quote:
Castle Rock may be the most notorious fictional town created by Stephen King, and it's also the setting of a new Hulu Original series, premiering July 25. In this short documentary, we visit the actual places in Maine and explore the actual events which inspired King to write about Castle Rock.

Then, we learn how the co-creators of the on-screen version of Castle Rock incorporated the town's dark history into this original story set inside the Stephen King universe.

Excited to dive into this show over the weekend. I think I will interrupt my MASH Hulu binge to catch the first three and yay that I will have another few days to catch up on other stuff before the next batch airs.

Watched the first episode last night. Had to look online afterward to identify all the Easter eggs, some of which are obvious and others are very obscure.

It's off to a good start and it justifies my Hulu subscription for a while longer.

Really enjoyed the first 3 episodes. They've got me curious as to where the story is going to go.

You sure about that? I remember when I watched Chance a few months ago - both seasons were only 2.0. My main hub is a PS4, too.

Is this show enjoyable for someone not super familiar with King's work, or is this best for big King fans?

I've seen the complaints about Hulu's audio, but my receiver seems to upmix things. I'm not an audiophile, so I don't know much about these things, but it sounds ok?

Yeah, I think so. Most of the references will go over your head, but as long as you like horror/supernatural shows it will be entertaining.

Watched Episode 1. Liked it pretty well. Curious to see where it goes.

The thread title here is wrong. I expected this to be an anthology series but it clearly isn’t. Not that I mind, I was just surprised when with about 15 minutes left, it became clear this story wasn’t wrapping up any time soon.

It is an anthology in terms of a season, like American Horror Story.
